On July 19, 1959, the plaintiff was operating his automobile in a southerly direction in the town of Union, Door county. The
road was gravel surfaced, the traveled portion of which was 13 feet in width. The defendant driver was driving his car in
a westerly direction on an intersecting road. The road on which the defendant driver was traveling was a gravel road 17 feet
in width. The plaintiff approached the intersection at a speed of 35 to 40 miles per hour. He became aware of the intersection and
the fact that his view to the left was obstructed when he was approximately 100 feet from it and reduced his speed by about
five miles per hour. The defendant approached the same intersection at a speed of from 20 to 25 miles per hour.
